Arrive in plenty of time; you will have to put any bags, mobile phones etc into a locker before entering the examination room. Once the examination starts, you will not be able to leave.

You will then be shown to a booth with a computer screen and a mouse.

The invigilator will start the test; you have 57 minutes to answer 50 questions.

You have to answer 43 out of 50 correct to pass this part (86%)

The questions flash up onto the computer screen, together with the answers and you have to select the correct answer or answers (sometimes there may be more than one, read the screen). There is a timer on the screen to help you manage your time.

If you find you cannot answer the question press the 'flag button' bottom of the screen and move on to next question.

Once you have completed all 50 questions and provided you have time left you can go back and review all of the questions including those you have unanswered or flagged.

Example of an on screen question

The second part of the test is called Hazard Perception.

You will be shown 14 short video clips of view taken from in a moving car.

You will see what is called a 'developing hazard' on the road in front of you, the idea is that you click on the mouse button (either one will do) as soon as you see the hazard. There is a marking system and you can score up to 5 points the earlier you see the hazard, the marks reduce the nearer you get to the hazard.

The below is an example of a 'developing hazard' and showing how you can score points.

The first click of the mouse should come when the lady starts to run across the footpath in the direction of the bus that is pulling up opposite.

The secret to success on this part of the test is to click the mouse as soon as you see the hazard and then click again once or twice to ensure you have scored in the marking bracket.

But be careful not to click too many times or you will be failed for that question and not get any points.

One of the 14 video clips has 2 'developing hazards' so you need to keep watching all of the time, don't switch off just because there has already been a hazard that you have dealt with.

You can score a maximum of 75 points; you have to score 44 points to pass (58%)

The free Driving Test DVD given to you by your instructor will allow you to practice both parts of the theory test and develop your knowledge and examination skills before taking the DSA Tests.

Questions can be downloaded onto your iPod or iPhone to 'learn on the move'

In addition to this your instructor will test your theory knowledge throughout the practical lessons and assist you wherever necessary to pass your theory tests.
